• What is a scarifier?

  A walk behind machine with carbide cutting tools on a drum that mills down or removes concrete.

• When should I use a scarifier?

  Ideal for the removal of more than 1/8’ of concrete, scarifiers will produce a CSP 4-5.

  If removing a coating is the only requirement a scarifier will perform the job much faster. A scarifier is also a better option when removing or milling down concrete due to the aggressive cutting teeth.

• Questions to ask before renting a scarifier

  • What is your power source? House power vs. generator.

  • What power is available? 220v single phase, 208v 3 phase, 480v 3 phase

  • Does the equipment need to be delivered to the jobsite? Most equipment is heavy and requires a box truck with a lift gate.

  • What is the access like to get the equipment on site? Do you need to hoist the equipment into the building or is there an elevator?

  • What is the end goal or purpose for renting equipment. i.e., removing flooring, removal of mastic, profile a surface for a coating, grinding uneven concrete.
